Data protection and infrastructure security are top priorities for business IT professionals

By admin, 28 listopada, 2012, No Comment

Among the numerous issues facing any company’s infrastructure security, the most critical are preventing unauthorised infiltration into the corporate network and protecting confidential information. This has emerged from a survey conducted by B2B International in July 2012, for Kaspersky Lab.

Company employees responsible for critical business decisions, including those related to IT security, were asked to single out the three tasks which they consider the most important for IT personnel. The top issue was preventing cybercriminals from infiltrating the corporate network – this was highlighted by 31% of those surveyed.

Information protection was chosen by 27%, making it the second most important task. To deal with this issue, a variety of measures are applied – backup copying, combating data leakage caused by staff, repelling cyber-attacks and many others. Since cybercriminals are looking for confidential information first and foremost, every possible effort should be made to ensure its safety.

It should be also noted that the immediate problem of controlling the use of mobile devices is only ranked third – just 13% regard work with MDM systems as among the three most critical tasks. This is striking in that, according to the same survey, 55% of companies are now seriously concerned about the security of mobile devices. This concern is not, apparently, being translated into prioritised action.

It is essential to apply some restrictions to the installation and launch of software on corporate devices with access to business information and services. High-quality anti-malware protection is also required, especially for Android devices. In addition, smartphones and tablets must support remote administration, so that access can be blocked and information deleted in the event of the device being lost or stolen. High-quality protection against malware and remote blocking capabilities are provided by Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Smartphone. This solution also makes it possible to locate the missing device using an integrated GPS module.

Nokia Siemens Networks helps Vodacom introduce voice & SMS alongside LTE in South Africa

By admin, 28 listopada, 2012, No Comment
  • Vodacom becomes 1st operator in Africa to combine voice with LTE services
  • Nokia Siemens Networks integrates Liquid Core LTE (4G) service continuity to enable fallback to GSM or 3G network for voice services, completes integration in 4 weeks

Vodacom South Africa’s 4G users can now enjoy voice calls and text messaging (SMS) along with their 4G service. To provide this service continuity, the operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ Liquid Core to enable circuit switched fall-back (CSFB) functionality in its LTE network. This functionality allows 4G users to make and receive voice calls using either the GSM or 3G network while retaining the benefit of ultra-fast data services via LTE.
Nokia Siemens Networks has also provided Vodacom with its single radio access network (RAN) based on its award-winning, energy-efficient Flexi Multiradio Base Station. The company will also deliver planning, implementation, optimization and support services for the network.

“We wanted to ensure that our customers get a unified service by being able to access both mobile voice and SMS services alongside 4G/LTE data services,” said Andries Steenkamp, managing executive, core network engineering at Vodacom South Africa. “Nokia Siemens Networks has surely given us a head-start over competition by providing a solution that meets our requirements. The fact that it was deployed in record time gave us an edge over others in the market.”

Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks has provided Vodacom South Africa with its Liquid Core architecture, based on its market-leading mobile soft switch (MSS) with CSFB. Once added to the MSS, the CFSB functionality allows the operator to reuse existing GSM and 3G investments to provide a unified voice and SMS service for people using its 4G service. The whole system is monitored, managed and optimized by NetAct, Nokia Siemens Networks’ network management system.

In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks has also provided services for access network planning and data fill for overlay MSS. This includes spare part management, emergency support, troubleshooting and training services.

“We are committed to helping Vodacom South Africa proactively address the demands of a fast evolving LTE ecosystem”, said Paul Divall, head of the Vodacom South Africa customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “The CSFB functionality was integrated into the operator’s live network with optimized call set-up times and bought it into commercial operation within a time span of four weeks. This achievement further strengthens our business relationship and paves the way for greater opportunities in the future”.

With its comprehensive mobile broadband and services portfolio, Nokia Siemens Networks is a leading supplier of CSFB core capability. The company has delivered CSFB to 30 customers across the globe.

Fiberlink partnership rounds out mobile device management offering from Vox Telecom

By admin, 28 listopada, 2012, No Comment

Vox Telecom has secured a direct partnership with US-based Fiberlink to distribute the Maas360 mobile device management solution in South Africa, rounding out the company’s enterprise mobility offering.

“Our strategy is to offer mobile device management (MDM) solutions that can be tailored to the needs of everyone from blue chip companies to SMEs,” says Will Hardie, Executive Head of Vox Telecom’s Enterprise Mobility division. “Between Maas360 and MobileIron, we have a three-tier offering that can meet the needs of any client.”

This three-tier offering is unique in the South African market, says Hardie. “At the high end, some of our clients prefer to host their own solution on-premises,” explains Hardie, “and MobileIron leads the pack for this type of solution. We’ve also created a private hosted solution, based on MobileIron and hosted in our own data centre, as a hybrid option for the mid-tier. And for companies who are looking for a public cloud or software-as-a-service solution, Maas360 is the clear leader.”

Hardie says Maas360 is very easy to implement and self-provision and Gartner rates Fiberlink’s global tech support highly. “Fiberlink also have a very strong strategy around the Blackberry environment. Maas360 will effectively treat a Blackberry phone just like any other, so companies can continue to support their Blackberry users without needing to own a BES server. That makes a lot of sense in a context where everyone is trying to streamline and simplify their environments.”

Maas360 is entirely device, OS and operator agnostic adds Hardie. “Not tying yourself down to any particular manufacturer or network is the core message of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) era. We believe Vox Telecom has an advantage here too: We aggregate the services of other telcos so we are able to provide truly network-agnostic services. “

The feature list of the newly released bizhub PRO B951 is packed with gems. Among them, two attributes really stand out – its affordability and durability. With a print speed of 95 pages per minute (ppm) A4, this new entry-level system offers an excellent price-performance ratio for central reprographic departments, digital print service providers and all high-volume printing environments without compromising on quality.

The new bizhub PRO B951 carries conviction with its superior print resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) and offers a wide range of lines per inch (lpi) options – from 40 to 300 lpi.
